Three types of substitutions were chosen: (i) two (R122K and K160R) correspond to the natural genetic heterogeneity; (ii) seven (P120S, T123S, M133I, Y134N, S143L, K141E, and G145R) are mutants described in the literature as HBV “variants” (7); and (iii) two additional mutants, R122D and A128G.
