Description Needles were introduced on both sides. After the fixation of the needles, low frequency electric current was passed from the machine designed for acupuncture anesthesia. Itolator Model E-4 and Neurometer NADC were used in this study. These machines are of good quality, trouble free, portable, battery operated and easy to handle. Apparatuses generate a polarity spike form of wave at a frequency of 3-4 Herz, similar to the equipment used in China. The electrical output was adjusted according to the patients' tolerance. During the process of electrostimulation the patients' tolerance threshold increases and, accordingly, the strength of the current was increased. The acupuncture and electrostimulation was continued until the completion of(third stage)delivery.

Effector
Definite subjective as well as objective relief of labor pain was produced in about 60% of 16 primapara and about 90% of multipara after acupuncture. The sedation of the patients was significant. The duration of the delivery, particularly in the second and third stages was shortened. No adverse or harmful effect was noticed on either mother or child. It was concluded that acupuncture anesthesia is useful for delivery, especially because of its safety, despite more erratic and less potent results than conventional anesthetic techniques.
Use of acupuncture anesthesia for normal delivery.
Abstract
In order to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture anesthesia for normal delivery, 32 parturients were selected and studied. It was concluded that acupuncture anesthesia is useful for delivery, especially because of its safety, despite more erratic and less potent results than conventional anesthetic techniques."
